Quite Possibly the Ultimate Fantasy World!

Guild Wars 2 is enticing and immersive from the moment you step foot into this fantasy world. If you have become disillusioned with the restrictions placed on cooperative gameplay in other MMO games, rest assured you’re on the right track with this game. Guild Wars 2 allows players from across the board to come together and combat an iniquitous presence of epic proportions. The moment you enter this realm, you may expect to see a benign environment but blink and you will soon find yourself immersed in nothing less than sheer mayhem. It is an amazing spectacle of swashbuckling entertainment, a crush of fighters, spells being cast left right and center and so much more. If you thought there could be any order in and amongst the chaos, think again. This is sheer mayhem; a frenzy of blistering entertainment the likes of which you have never seen before.

But what the game lacks in apparent coordination, it more than makes up for in a sense of unified purpose. Everyone is working towards the same objective: vanquishing the evil presence from the land. The game was developed back in 2012, and when it hit the scene it was a master- blaster event for MMO fans. Thanks to ArenaNet, this unified sense of purpose concept is artfully constructed into every combat zone that you enter. When you are ready to explore these enchanting territories, you will find a whole lot more than you bargained for with surprises at every turn. The land where the action takes place is known as Tyria and it is a playground of epic proportions. Fortunately, you don’t have to worry a whole lot about restrictions on who can cooperate at what level in the game. Much of that has been removed, and you’re left with a clear target that you need to destroy. Forget about long waiting lines and superiors – this is an environment where everyone gets stuck in from the get-go. It’s all guns blazing in a mesmerizing display of superior firepower in a bid to vanquish a wicked presence from the land.

The incredible effects that you are about to see in Guild Wars 2 were craftily constructed by ArenaNet. If you’ve ever played Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, you will know all too well about the concept of public questing. The types of activities that you will engage in are simply out of this world, such as fighting against raging infernos inside of volcanoes, or guarding a sleepy mountainous shack from creatures that appear to be powered by steam. The close linkage between events brings maximum entertainment pleasure to the scene. And that’s precisely what Guild Wars 2 does: this MMO game takes a seemingly benign concept such as a peaceful village and transforms it instantaneously into a major centaur raid. The contrast is startling. What this does for your expectations in the game is pretty mind-bending; you simply don’t know what’s coming around the corner but you do know that you should expect the unexpected.

Advancing to Higher Levels in the Game

As you would expect, higher levels come with all sorts of complexity. Guild Wars 2 is no different. Watch out for levels 70 – 80, since this is when all the magic comes together and you are thrust into epic encounters with battlegrounds like you have never seen before. But you don’t need to wait until you reach this stage of the game; every subsequent battleground beyond the early stages of the game is packed with feature-rich entertainment that just keeps getting better and better. The territory of Tyria is truly chaotic in every sense of the word. There is nothing that needs your participation in order for the forces of good and evil to wage war against one another. You simply join the fray and try and make sense of the mayhem around you. Players will enjoy tremendous rewards by participating in these battle scenes.

Things like virtual currency and experience points are yours to claim, when you have earned them. ArenaNet has done a bang up job in unifying such a diverse world to the point where there is no reason for you to feel like you are not contributing or a part of something bigger than yourself. Unfortunately, the gameplay doesn’t always meet expectations in this larger-than-life battleground. Once you have become familiar with the rotations in the game and you’ve gone through the motions several times, it loses its appeal to a degree. There is another drawback of the game that perhaps needed a little attention from the get-go: in making the game inclusive of everyone and accessible to everyone, the game fails to reach the levels of sophistication that it otherwise could.

Areas for Improvement

Make no mistake, there are some rather monotonous moments such as time spent talking between characters, and the rather dull nature of most personalities could have certainly done with a boost. But the major plus points in the game far outweigh the negatives. Check out the drink binges with the Pirates as a case in point. The dungeons are artfully constructed for 5-person groups, which makes it highly challenging and exciting at the same time. And here’s something that’s really interesting too – any class of player has the ability to heal other players. There are 8 classes of players in the game and each of them has unique skill sets and abilities. And yes, the bosses are awesome. They have incredible abilities such as chucking spears at your group and then if he hits you he’ll drag one of your players back to him. It’s things like this that really make this game memorable.

Of course, you’ll have the ability to dodge each of these vicious attacks, but not indefinitely. This is definitely more an action-packed game than it is a regular MMO adventure. Naturally you will use your intellect as best you can in the PvP areas, and you don’t need to climb up levels to get to that point. Recall that there are 80 levels in the game, and the rules are pretty relaxed. There is something to be said for the difference between player versus environment and world versus world mode in the game – check it out you won’t be disappointed. Once again, you may find that you are in panic mode, but keep your wits about you and you’ll soon catch on. Momentum flows back and forth in Guild Wars 2, and fortunately you don’t need to have this weapon or that weapon to succeed in the game. Your overall level of skill is what determines how well you will do in combat scenes.

The Takeaway

There are many plus points in the game including its dazzling audio-visuals, expansive world and high levels of interaction. It’s great that you don’t need to meet certain requirements in order to compete with other players of all different levels. However, if you play the game enough times, you may find it a little repetitive. You have the ability to interact with scores of players across many different servers if you really want to. This is possible in the World versus World platform. But here’s something that you will definitely love about this game – it 100% free to play. Now that is certainly with something especially when it comes to a game this detailed and action-packed!
